Če se napotimo vzdolž cerkve za apsido ter se
spustimo v smeri proti morju, se bomo ponovno
vrnili na pešpot Gemina.
A
fter the first 5 kmpassing through the
woods, you reach the first houses of San
Pelagio. A narrow lane leads up to the church
square, past gardens and entrances crowned by
the typical carved stone portals.
The church – dedicated to St. Pelagius – is
thought to date back to the fifteenth century,
although it has been remodeled several times
and has a baroque portal surmounted by a
double lancet window [12-15]. It is best known
for its bell tower that culminates in a pointed
spire. Unusually, it is constructed in the
Venetian style and is considered one of themost
beautiful of the Karst.
Before continuing, it is worthmaking a small
detour, pointing straight down along the left
side of the church to admire the old presbytery,
a traditional karst house, lovingly restored and
converted into a civic centre [11]. The house
was built in 1566 using local stonematerials and
even the roof ismade using limestone shingles,
typical flat stone tiles, as was the case for all the
ancient buildings of the Karst.
The path continues, passing behind the apse of
the church, and down towards the sea.
